Types of Alternative Home Designs

Today, more people are opting to build more creative, less traditional homes and nothing expresses your individuality like how you design your house. Learning how to incorporate your artistic point of view into your design is an excellent way to guarantee that your home will be as unique and individual as you are.

There are countless alternative home designs that you can research before you make your decision. Your home should be functional and energy efficient but it should also directly reflect you and your personal style.

• Geodesic design - Also known as "dome homes", these designs are geometric-based and were primarily created as shelters built to sustain violent weather conditions. Today, these designs have been incorporated into modern housing plans and are extremely efficient. They have ceilings that are vaulted which allows for excellent insulation against hot and cold weather. They are also structurally sound enough to endure earthquakes and hurricanes.

• Topsider design - Topsider designs are extremely adaptable to all weather conditions and landscape. They are especially resistant to salt water and air which make them very popular in beach communities and on tropical islands.

• Sustainable design - These types of designs are considered eco-friendly and use the environment to create a symbiotic relationship between the home and the natural elements. They use solar energy panels to power the home and are designed to effectively distribute and maintain household temperatures. Most sustainable homes also have exceptional appliances and window upgrades.

• Log cabin design - Beautifully crafted, log cabin designs are perhaps the most unique style of alternative creations. They are well-built, natural works of art that evoke a feeling of relaxation while providing you with a sense of peace that other designs cannot match. Log cabin designs fit almost every taste and can be customized to your exact specifications.
