Types of Black Short Hairstyles
Many African American women are challenged with achieving different hairstyles because their texture is very unique. Short hair can be especially difficult to manage. This doesn't mean that African American women should not have the same positive experience with learning new and exciting hairstyles. There are a lot of ways they can style their short hair to look as beautiful as they are.
- Natural - Most African American hair is extremely curly in its natural state. If you allow your hair to remain without chemicals, shampoo and condition daily, you will see your hair reveal its true state. Keeping it cut short and cropped close to your face is an excellent way to accentuate your features like your eyes or full lips.
- The bob - This type of hairstyle has been popular for years. It is a short haircut that is longer on the sides and cropped very short in front and in the back. You can leave your hair in the natural curly state or utilize a mild relaxer to achieve a sleek look. Either way, you will look professional and polished.
- The layered cut - A short, pixie-like haircut looks great on anyone with confidence and poise. The layers allow your hair to move freely and gives excellent body. Using a relaxer will provide the best results for this carefree look.
- Braids - Braids are a wonderful way to express your African heritage and they will remain in tact for a very long time with little maintenance. To ensure that your hair remains healthy, you should wash and condition each time you remove your braids before restyling. Most African Americans can suffer from dry scalp if they wash their hair on a daily basis because the harsh chemicals in shampoo can strip natural oils. Because of this, it is recommended that you wash your hair approximately once per week, rather than daily if you have braids. You should also utilize the proper type of oil moisturizer between washings.
- Wave technique - This looks best on very short hair. A relaxer may also be needed for this type of hairstyle. For the best results, apply the relaxer first and trim the hair evenly. Using hair gel, you can brush your hair until waves form. The gel will harden when dry and keep the waves securely locked in place until you wash your hair.
