Types of Car Wash Soap and Chemicals
The types of car wash soap and chemicals that you apply to your car can do damage. Always use products that are made for automobile paint. Even household products may be too harsh for the wax coating on the exterior of your car. With any product, read the directions and apply as directed. There are some ways to avoid scratches and streaks while cleaning your vehicle. Use caution and test any product prior to use.
- Assess the condition of your car’s exterior paint. Check to see if there are any scratches or chipped paint. These conditions will change the types of products that you would want to use on your car.
- Use products that are designed for automobile paint. Common household products may be too harsh and abrasive to your car’s wax layer. Some products can even penetrate into the paint layer.
- Dilute the product you choose as per the instructions. You do not want to pour even car product soaps or chemicals right onto the car surface. They are generally made to mix with water.
- Make sure to mix ingredients well. The water should be a little sudsy when finished.
- Use the proper tools to apply the soaps or other products onto your car. Buying brand name automobile products will do you no good if you use a dirty abrasive rag to apply it.
- Invest in some lambs-wool mitts or sponges for the best result. You will also want to be careful that you apply as directed.
- Test any soap or chemical first on an area that will not be noticed. Make sure that the product does not cause any scratches or color changes to your vehicle.
- Rinse any product off well and dry. Do not use chemicals or soaps on hot sunny days during direct sunlight. Doing this can cause spots or streaks to occur.
- Dry your car with a soft poly fiber or other safe soft cloth. Rub across your car to avoid scratching or streaks.
