Types of Coaxial Cables

A coaxial cable has two conductors that share a common axis. Coaxial cables are used for a variety of functions, such as carrying radio signals, video signals, data signals and measurement signals. The most common types are the 50 ohms and the 75 ohms.

Types of Coaxial Cables

  • 50 ohms: One of the most commonly used cables. It is used with radio transmitter applications. It can easily handle high transmitter power.

  • 60 ohms: This type of cable is rarely used. It is used in both transmitting applications and antenna networks.

  • 75 ohms: One of the most commonly used cables. It is widely used in audio, video and telecommunications applications. Networks in houses and cable television systems are built from these cables.

  • 93 ohms: This type of cable is rarely used. It was once used for connections between computers and their monitors.
