Types of Cosmetic Products
Cosmetic products are a constant in the lives of both men and women. They are used to improve your appearance, smell and even how you feel when touched. There are many different types of products that fall within this category, even some that may surprise you.
- Facial Cosmetic Products - Facial makeup products are often the first thing that come to mind with the word "cosmetics." These types of products are used to enhance the appearance of your facial features, generally with the application of color. Products that fall under facial cosmetics include liquid, cream and mineral foundations, concealers, face powder, and blush. Cosmetics for the lips are also included in this category, such as lipstick, lip gloss, lip liners and pencils.
- Skin Care - Cosmetics for the skin are used to soften, smoothen and generally improve the look and feel of your body, including your arms and legs. Products in this category include moisturizers to help hydrate the skin, body cleansers and body lotions, creams, and oils to soften your skin.
- Eye Makeup - Eye makeup consists of products that are applied on or around the eyelids, eyebrows and eyelashes. When used correctly they can bring attention to and enhance the appearance of your eyes. Generally eye makeup products include eye shadows, mascaras and eye liners. Eye makeup remover and eyebrow pencils also fall under this category of cosmetics.
- Nail Cosmetics - Cosmetics for the nails are used to beautify and bring positive attention to the hands and feet. These types of cosmetic products include nail polishes, hand and cuticle creams and oils and polish removers.
- Toothpaste - According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), both toothpastes and deodorants are classified as cosmetic products. Toothpaste is used to cleanse and freshen the mouth, and they also serve to keep your teeth healthy and your smiles looking beautiful.
- Hair Products - Hair cosmetics, or products, alter the appearance, behavior and feel of your hair. They can be in the form of hair dyes, shampoos and conditioners, relaxers and permanent waves. Hair spray, gels and other styling products are also considered cosmetic products.
