Types of Drain Clog Tools and Products

There are many different tools and products that can be used to unclog a stubborn blockage in your drain pipe. What you will need to use depends on the severity and location where the blockage is located. This is a wide variety of tools and products for you to choose from sold at your local hardware or home improvement store.

Flushing Tools - Plumbers will often use this method to unclog a stubborn clogged drain. You must locate the closest main drain vent to the clog and then insert your flushing tool in an attempt to flush the debris from your pipe. A hose is usually the main component of the process, along with one of the many flushing tools that attach to the hose that can increase the pressure of the water.

Drain Removal - Often when none of the other methods are working you will need to remove the drain and manually unclog the drain by hand in order to clear the stubborn clog. Always mark your materials as they are removed so that you know how to put them back in once the debris is cleared.

Plunger - Although the plunger is often associated with a toilet, it can be a useful tool for any clogged or blocked drain in your house. A plunger will attempt to force the debris from the pipe. You should use a standard plunger first before trying any other home remedies or calling a plumber.

Chemicals - Many drain cleaners are available on the market to unclog stubborn drains. A well-known product for unclogging drains is Drano. However, there are many other options available at your local hardware or home improvement store.

Rooting Tools - Rooting tools are often used to clear a stubborn drain. If your drain requires the use of a rooting tool you will have to rent the tool from your local hardware store or call a plumber to do the job for you.
