Types of Drivers Insurance
There are a few types of coverage’s that make up drivers insurance. Each one has it's own specifications of what it will cover in case of a claim. This is helpful since many people have a very limited knowledge of auto insurance. Most states now have a minimum amount of coverage that a driver must have in order to legally operate a vehicle on that state’s highways.
Property Damage Liability
Property damage liability is mandatory in most states and covers the damage that your car causes to another person’s car or property in the event of an accident.
Bodily Injury Liability
Bodily injury liability is coverage that will cover medical cost of persons that you injure in the event of an accident.
Full Coverage
If you have full coverage instead of minimum coverage, it will also cover your medical cost. Medical payment will cover your medical cost and the medical cost of any occupants of your vehicle no matter which driver is found at fault. This is optional coverage in most states.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Uninsured motorist coverage is a type of coverage that covers you, your car and your passengers in the event that you are involved in an accident with a driver that does not have insurance. Although auto insurance is mandatory in all states, there are still many drivers that drive without insurance.
Collision Coverage
Collision coverage is strictly to cover damages to your vehicle in the event of an accident. This coverage is required on all new vehicles. If the car is paid in full, it is the owner’s choice whether to carry this coverage or not.
Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive coverage is also optional in most states. Comprehensive coverage covers damage from theft, fire, flood, vandalism and other damages not covered under any of the other damages.
