Types of Durable Bathtub Backrests

Having a backrest in the bathtub can be very useful. They support your back and allow you fully relax while soaking in the tub. Individuals who are recommended by their physicians to soak aches in pains in the tub should consider purchasing one, since they will most likely spend more time in the tub than average. The two main types of backrests are those made from hard plastic, and those made from polyurethane.

Polyurethane backrests for bathtubs are very durable. The outer shell is made from polyurethane and is resistant to mold, while the inside either has a foam cushion or is filled with gel. The polyurethane shell on the outside of the backrest protects the inside of the backrest from water, making the entire backrest waterproof. It can withstand drastic temperature changes without cracking. The outside of the backrest is very soft, but also very elastic, which makes it hard to puncture. They are easily installed with suction cups and can be removed for cleaning.

The second type of backrest is to be used with a bath chair. These are readily available for purchase at any home-healthcare retail store. They are constructed out of hard plastic and rustproof aluminum. They have a textured surface to prevent slipping. Most of these have a weight limit of 250 pounds or more, depending on the size and brand.

Both types of backrests can be removed from the tub, if desired. The bath seat with the backrest typically folds up for easy storage. Both types are portable and easily used in tubs of various shapes and sizes.
