Types of Fast Food Restaurants

Many people today are so busy and on-the-go that sometimes they are left with no choice but to settle for fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Research studies indicate that fast food is unhealthy and the blame for an overweight population. While fast foods may not be the right kind of food to be nutritional, there are low calorie and fat-free foods available on most fast food menus.

Types of Fast Food Restaurants

Fast food restaurants are the first choice of many Americans. The ease of calling and ordering your food and having it delivered, or just dropping by the drive-thru on your way home from work and picking up dinner after a long day, can be irresistible.

There are a variety of fast food restaurants besides the usual fast food chain restaurants that you can find all over the world. Other types of fast food restaurants are ones that are privately owned businesses operated by local citizens.

Barbecue Shacks

Barbecue shack restaurants offer a variety of barbecue foods. The meats are prepared in large smokers and cooked to perfection; some have their own unique sauce or dry rub. Menu choices are ribs and barbecue sandwiches in an individual or family-size meal, with side orders of baked beans and coleslaw. Some barbecue shacks serve fish dinners that can be baked instead of fried with the choice of salad and low-fat dressing.

Hamburger Drive-ins

Hamburger drive-ins serve different choices of old fashioned hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken strip dinners, fish sandwiches and other kinds of sandwiches, usually with the choice of fries, onion rings and tater tots. Some hamburger drive-ins still provide a gallon of old-fashioned root beer on request. Most hamburger drive-ins also offer a tossed salad with a choice of low-fat dressing.

Sub Shops

Sub shops are restaurants that will make any type of sub sandwich that you choose. Different choices of meats such as ham, salami, chicken, bacon and roast beef are available on different types of breads. Subs can be made on wheat or rye bread with low-calorie or fat-free dressing.
