Types of Math Literacy Games

Math games are designed to help students understand all different types of mathematics. These games can help students learn math that they were struggling with in a way that is entertaining and easier for them to understand. These types of games are important because they offer children and adults another means of understanding numbers, statistics and mathematical concepts.

Math Puzzles:  Math puzzles are one of the most common types of games that can be played using mathematical practices that will yield a specific result. One of the most common puzzles looks somewhat like a Sudoku grid but each of the 9 numbers can only be used once and all have to equal a specific number.

Word Games: Many math problems are in the form of word problems. Playing word games is one way to help kids understand various math concepts as well as help them to develop their deductive reasoning skills.

Time-telling Games: There are several time-telling games that you can tell with younger children that will help them to understand when things happen and help them to tell time. They can also learn what the different positions on the clock mean and how to count in multiples of fives.

Tangrams: Tangrams are fun for kids because they can learn to count as well as create a fun picture while they do it. Using different shapes, they can learn numbers of sides as well as basic architecture with building things.

Probability: Dice games are one way to teach teens and adults probability. No matter how many times you do something, the results are rarely the same, making the chance a probability.
