Types of Nursery Storage
New parents are often excited over designing a nursery for their new arrival. During the planning stages, it is important to include not only furniture and toys, but proper storage items to accommodate all of the baby's belongings as well. Having a room that includes storage pieces that have multiple uses will ensure the nursery is both functional and organized.
Bookshelves
Bookshelves can be purchased in numerous styles, from ones with a wooden composition to ones that feature bright colors and bold designs. A bookcase is perfect for not only storing books, but can be used to store toys as well. A bookcase with a sturdy construction and adjustable shelves will allow parents to easily adapt the bookcase for storing various sized books or toys.
Toy Organizers
A toy organizer usually consists of several shelves that hold plastic or fabric bins. These bins are ideal for holding small toys, puzzles or art supplies. During the infancy stage, these bins can be used to hold toiletries, clothing, feeding supplies or diapers. Parents should look for an organizer that is sturdy and can not be easily tipped over. Bins should be tear-resistant if made from fabric or have plastic bins that are durable and can wiped clean easily.
Storage Boxes or Toy Boxes
Although infants may not have an abundance of toys at first, they will accumulate quite a few items by the time they reach toddlerhood. A nursery storage box with a well-fitting lid can be the ideal place to store larger toys that cannot fit on shelves or as a type of catch-all place for when a room needs tidied up quickly. Some toy boxes have a lid that also acts as a bench, which can add extra seating space to a room.
Clothing Storage
A dresser is ideal for clothing storage in a nursery. Dressers can be purchased as a one-piece unit or with a hutch on top of the dresser. A one-piece unit with multiple drawers will provide ample space for storing a baby's wardrobe. One that also includes a hutch will offer extra space for displaying picture frames and small collectibles.
Nursery Storage Baskets
Wicker or fabric baskets can be purchased in multiple sizes and can be used to store everything from diapers to toys. Smaller sized baskets can easily fit on bookcases or wall shelves. Medium to larger baskets can be used with a changing table to store toiletries or as a toy box. These can usually be purchases in multiple colors, so parents can pick ones that complement their nursery decor.
Hampers
A baby will accumulate dirty laundry daily, from clothing to blankets to towels, it all needs to be stored somewhere. A hamper with a lid is perfect for keeping dirty linens stored out of sight and to reduce clutter in a nursery.
