Types of Paranormal Communication Devices

Communicating with ghosts or spirits is a hobby for some people and a career for others. Attempts to communicate with the deceased date back thousands of years. There are many useful tools used to communicate with the spirit world. Some tools are favored more than others. In fact, there are some communicating tools that are not even in use any longer.

  • EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon. EVP's are recording devices used to record the voices of spirits on magnetic tape or digital devices. The way they work is that you walk around areas where there is known paranormal activity. You ask questions, speaking directly into the EVP recording device.  A short response is then given in order to allow the spirits a chance to respond. The recording is then played back, usually via computer.  A good headset and microphone is normally required.

  • Ouija boards date back to the mid-1800s. The first Ouija board was put on store shelves in 1890. A Ouija board is a talking board, so to speak. It is a board that has letters of the alphabet printed on it along with numbers zero through nine and the words yes and no. There is a piece that a person rests their fingers on to ask a question. It is said that the spirits then leads the person to spell out the answer to the question, either spelling out the word letter by letter or with a simple yes or no response.

  • EMF detectors detect electromagnetic fields. There are three types of these detectors, which are electric field, magnetic field and radio frequency meters. Most paranormal investigators today use multifield meters, which detect more than one field at a time.

  • Temperature sensors are often used in paranormal investigations. Spirits are often detected in cold spots because of their depletion of energy. The sensors are infrared devices that can be read 10 to more than 50 feet away.

  • Other types of paranormal communication devices include portable field viewers, oscilloscopes, data loggers and computer programs.
