What Is the Meaning of Pediatric Dentistry?

Types of Pediatric Dentistry Procedures

Children like to feel comfortable when going to the dentists. A pediatric dentist is great when it comes to children and their fears by providing a relaxing atmosphere for them. They explain things so the children can understand, especially the dentistry procedures so they can ask questions.

Cleaning

Children need regular checkups so they can have their teeth examined and cleaned to prevent diseases. It is recommended that the children visit their dentist as least twice a year for cleaning, which removes plaque and tartar. The dentist also checks to see if there is any decay on any of the teeth. The children also get teeth brushing instructions.

Extractions

Sometimes children acquire broken teeth that cannot be saved so they will have to be taken out. The extracted tooth often leaves a gap, which can cause the teeth to shift and this will require space maintainers.

Fillings

If the child has received decay on a tooth, it is necessary to have a filling done. The decay is removed before the filling is installed. The filling is installed so the tooth is reinforced.

Sealants

Sealants are a very common procedure done for children. The sealants cover the teeth so food and bacteria do not reach the tooth and cause decay.

Space Maintainers

Space maintainers are placed between the baby teeth that have gaps. This keeps the teeth from shifting when there is a gap between the teeth. When the teeth begin to develop and grow, the space maintainers can be removed.
