Types of Quick Sewing Projects for Kids

Any day a child is kept inside is a great day for crafts. Sewing and kids are not generally thought to go together, but if done carefully, you can have fun and create quick and easy sewing projects. This will teach kids the art of sewing. You only need a few left over sewing supplies.

There are a variety of quick and easy sewing projects for kids. You can easily come up with some great ideas with fabric scraps and small discarded pieces. Try a few ideas to turn a boring afternoon into an afternoon of fun.

  • Pillows are always a great project for kids. Cut the fabric into squares, rectangles, circles, or hearts. Let the kids use markers or fabric paint to decorate. Once dry, sew the two sides together leaving an opening for stuffing. Little fingers will find stuffing to be an easy job. Once the pillows are stuffed, sew the opening for them.

  • Sachets are a great project, especially for little girls. They go together just like a pillow, except use potpourri or herbs, instead of stuffing.

  • Use old t-shirts to create fun bags. Lay out the shirt and cut off the sleeves. Lay a plastic grocery bag on top of the shirt and cut between the handles. Sew the bottom and hem the handle area. They make great funky bags and even teenagers love making these.

There are many fun projects that kids are capable of helping to make, and you can even teach them how to reuse items around your home in the process.
