Types of Services Maintenance Repair
Most drivers rely on their mechanics to maintain and repair their car. Maintenance is car service that is done a scheduled basis to keep the car in working order. Repair services are done when the car has a broken part or damaged body. Both can be expensive, so it is best to find a fair and reasonable mechanic to service and repair your car.
State Inspection
Many states have laws that require cars to be inspected on a regular basis. Mechanics perform the inspection by checking brakes, tires, headlights and the engine to insure that all parts are working properly. They will also check the vehicle's emissions (on older cars) to ensure that they meet government pollution requirements.
Lube and Oil Change
Mechanics routinely change the oil and lubricate the vehicle's chassis according to the manufacturer's recommendation. The mechanic will also check and fill other liquids on the vehicle, including the brake fluid, engine coolant, radiator fluid and transmission fluid.
Diagnostics and Major Engine Repairs
If you are experiencing major engine problems a mechanic can diagnose and fix the problem. Mechanics used diagnostic equipment like computers and electrical tests to determine why a car is not running or why the “Check Engine” light is on. Some repairs may involve taking apart the whole engine and rebuilding it again. This may take several days, even weeks such it involves a lot of labor.
Tire Maintenance
Auto mechanics can perform tasks like rotating tires, checking air pressure and replacing tires. You may go to special tire shops that focus on just tires. Some tire shops have services in which they can travel to fix flat tires or deliver replacement tires to you.
