Types of Tools for a Professional Electrician
Professional electricians require various types of tools. Electricians have specific tools to help keep them safe. Without the proper tools, the electrician cannot do his job safely and can cause damage to your home or office. Electricians must be extremely careful when working with electricity; if done incorrectly it could cause a fire and possibly a life.
Fish Tape
- Electricians use fish tape to extract stranded metal wire through PVC. Fish tape is a strip of metal coiling inside of a metal case.
Linesman Pliers
- Linesman pliers can twist, cut and grip wires. The pliers have squared off ends, which are perfect for twisting wires together. Linesman pliers have a center cutting blade and a gripper on the handles to pull wire.
Side Snips
- Side snips are pliers that cut wires. These pliers have a cutting edge on the tip of the pliers. Side snips get into a tight area so it can be trimmed. These types of pliers can sometimes come with wire detection capabilities.
Voltage Detector
- Voltage detectors run safety checks to determine if voltage flow is present. Some voltage detectors turn on by a switch, and some are automatic. Place the detector next to the wire or cord to see if it has a charge.
Wire Strippers
- Wire strippers pull sheathing from electrical wires, which will expose bare wires. Wire strippers look like scissors and the handles attach to cutting heads. The wire strippers have a cutting edge that lines with indentures. The indentures cut the insulation and leave the wire exposed and ready to be connected to the circuit breakers.
