Tips for Choosing Dresses for Women

Types of Wedding Dresses for Women

Wedding dresses come in a variety of fabrics and designs, but most stem from basic style types. These style types include mermaid, floor length gown, A-line and sheath. It is important to choose the right style of dress for your body type. Having a wedding dress that fits properly is crucial for your special day.

Mermaid Style

The mermaid style of dress is given the name because its shape resembles that of a mermaid. The fit is very snug at the top, flares out around the hips and comes in close again below the knee. This type of dress is ideal if you have curves in all the right places. Shorter women also look good in a mermaid style wedding dress because it gives the illusion of length and height.

Sheath

A sheath dress is a very simplistic style and is often worn by brides that are getting married for the second time and do not desire anything too elaborate or fancy. The dress is very understated, yet still complements a woman's figure without going over the top.

Floor Length Gown

This style of dress is very detailed at the top, fits snug at the waist and then has a full center that hangs to the floor. Think of Cinderella or a classy southern belle when envisioning the floor length gown style.

A-Line

An A-line dress is a very traditional style worn by most brides. As the name would suggest, the design is shaped like the letter "A". An A-line dress typically has a tapered top, is angled in at the waist and features a flared bottom.
