Urban Gardening Grants

There are many grants available for organizations attempting to create urban gardens and green spaces. The project organizers simply need to meet the requirements of a grant to apply. Some grant applications must be accompanied by an official grant proposal.

National Gardening Association Youth Garden Grants

This grant provides money to child centered garden programs. Youth groups, community centers, schools and after school programs who have at least 15 children between the ages of three and 18 years old participating in a garden project are eligible to apply. Five garden projects will receive $1000 in gift cards and educational materials. Ninety-five gardening programs will receive $500 in gift cards and educational materials.

America the Beautiful Fund

This fund provides free seeds to urban garden projects across the United States. Simply complete their application, which asks for information about the use of the seeds. Requestors do have to pay a small fee for shipping.

Captain Planet Foundation

The Captain Planet Foundation offers grants of up to $2500 for organizations and schools whose annual budget is less than $3 million. In order to apply organizers must show that the funds will go towards helping children learn about sustainable gardening through hands-on interaction.

Fiskars' Project Orange Thumb

Fiskars is a leading office supply and garden supply manufacturer. Every year they give eleven grants of $3,500 each to community gardens. Grant winners will also receive $1,500 in new gardening tools. Additionally one community garden will receive a complete professional garden makeover. Grants are only given to gardens that were planted in a place where no garden previously existed.
