Various Propane Refrigeration Repair Methods
As opposed to standard refrigerators which use approximately three kilowatt hours or more per day, propane refrigerators provide efficient and cheaper refrigeration. These are free standing and are designed to custom fit for homes and cabins, RVs etc., cooling if powered by a tiny flame as opposed to a motor.
How to repair your propane refrigerator:
- Check for the settings of propane control panel in case of an RV refrigerator and the gas level in case of a home or cabin refrigerator. The ambient amount of propane required in the tank is approximately 80 percent of the filling capacity.
- Confirm that the gas mode is selected and purge the air from the gas line in case of a recently filled tank.
- Check if there are any leaks in the connectors by applying liquid soap. Upon finding any leaks replace the connectors.
- In case of RV propane refrigerators make sure that the RV level is concurrent with that of the refrigerator since this prevents the possible cooling unit damage caused by accumulation of ammonia in the evaporator tubing resulting from placing your RV or fridge in an inclined position. You can make sure of the level by placing a bubble level on the top of the refrigerator and aligning accordingly.
- Keep the upper exhaust vents and the insides of fresh air intakes clean since accumulation of soot, dirt and dust particles can affect the performance of both the burner and the flame sensor adversely. The cleaning can be done with the help of a soft cloth and compressed. If necessary, install a fan inside the refrigerator’s back to ensure free and increased air flow.
- Propane refrigerators usually about a day to cool so running your fridge over night prior to usage is advisable.
- For an automobile propane refrigerator, pre-cool the items in a home refrigerator if possible. Ensure that the inside temperature of the refrigerator stays below 40 degrees Fahrenheit with the help of a kitchen thermometer.
- Check for seal leaks in the door by inserting a piece of paper through the length of the refrigerator door to ensure that there is absolutely no leakage since this reduces the performance and health of propane refrigerators drastically.
