Vegetable Garden Tips

Many people love to have vegetable gardens in their yards. Gardens are very easy to keep up with, especially if you follow a few tips and tricks to keep your plants happy. Starting out you may not understand how mold ends up on leaves or how to keep aphids from making a home in your cauliflower. Follow these simple tips and you will understand all this and more.

Watering

Most people over water or under water, but very few people water correctly. Vegetable gardens love morning water and using a soaker hose gives you the best results. Soaker hoses do not spray water; these hoses just let water drip into the soil. If you water in the evening you risk creating mold on your plant leaves, the mold can ruin your entire crop. Unless you are facing temperatures that completely dry your soil each day, only water every other day. Over watering can kill off a plant very quickly. Plant leaves may look a little dry between waterings, but rest assured that the vegetables are getting what they need.

Aphids

You may not know what those little white bugs, are but bugs are one of your worst enemies in a vegetable garden. There are several ways to fight them before the bugs get started. When you plant your garden, plan for onion and garlic to be planted between and around your other vegetables. Many pests truly dislike onions. Your local nursery can sell you ladybugs; these cute little bugs eat aphids. Ladybugs can be a huge help in your garden.

Space for vines

It is easy to forget how much room a tiny little pumpkin plant will eventually require. Plan to space your vine plants far enough apart that the plants can reach their full potential.
