Vitamins for Skin Health

If you have dry, itchy or scaly skin, you may want to look at increasing certain vitamins in your diet. You do not have to get these extra vitamins from ingesting pills necessarily; they can also be absorbed by eating fruits, vegetables and grains.

  • Vitamin C and Vitamin E

When you spend too much time in the sun, your skin will age at an increased rate and lose some of its youthful appearance. The UV rays of the sun help people tan, but they also cause skin damage. Vitamin E oil, applied topically or in the form of a cream or lotion, can help protect the skin by acting as a natural sunblock. Vitamin C has also been shown to help protect the skin from sun exposure.

  • Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an important building block in the skin’s production of its cells.  When you're getting enough vitamin A in your diet, wrinkles should be lessened and your skin should be less dry.

  • B Vitamins

The B vitamins niacin and biotin are both important for your skin and help skin retain its moisture.

  • Vitamin K

Vitamin K helps to reduce bags under the eyes. On other areas of your body it can help to reduce the appearance and color of bruises, which is due in part to Vitamin K’s ability to help the blood clot. Vitamin K is most effective when it is combined with other vitamins like Vitamin A and used topically as in a cream.
