Ways To Sell a Car
Whether you are buying a new vehicle or just getting rid of an unwanted one, there comes a time when you must sell your vehicle. Trading it in for a new one is one of the simplest ways to do this; however, you are less likely to get the full value of your vehicle than you would if you sold it privately. When putting your car up for sale, there are several ways to go about it that will give you maximum exposure to potential buyers.
On the Internet - Online ads are the newest and cheapest method for selling cars. Websites like Vehix.com and craigslist allow people to sell their vehicles for free. Due to the amount of space that online ads allow for posting information, sellers are encouraged to put all important details about their cars in online ads, including accident history, damage and especially pictures. Online ads are quickly outpacing newspapers in readership.
Newspaper Advertisement - Newspaper ads are an old-fashioned media for selling cars. Most newspapers have a “for sale” section where car owners can sell their vehicles for a fee. Newspaper ad space is usually very small and requires sellers to know a lot about car lingo for the purpose of abbreviating certain terms.
Window Sign – The fastest way to sell a car is to put a sign in the side or rear window. Most people put the price and their phone number on the sign and let it sell the car while they're driving or when it's parked and they're in the store shopping. The advantage of this is that anyone who sees the car can get a quick look at it right away, and perhaps even offer a deal on the spot.
Consignment Lot – Another way to sell a car where people can get an immediate look at it is at a consignment lot. The owner of the consignment lot will typically charge a commission on the sale of the car plus fees for DMV paperwork and other administrative issues. Some people who sell their cars this way will also augment their chances by posting online ads.
