Ways to Avoid Animal Pest
Unfortunately, there are a variety of animal pests that can cause havoc around your home or business. These pests can range from small mammals like mice and other rodents to insects. However, they all share a common attribute. They are unwanted, and they can be avoided.
Maintain a Clean Exterior
Perhaps the single most important thing a person can do to avoid animal pests is to maintain the exterior of their building. Any trash should immediately be removed and there should be minimal places for animals to hide. If a location has ample food and hiding spots, then it will be difficult to keep pests from causing havoc. Food and shelter are the most basic elements required to support life. Therefore, these should be the first items you remove from potential animal pests.
Secure Garbage Can Lids
Garbage cans are the most common portion of your home or business that will experience unwanted animal activity. The smell of food that has been disposed will likely attract a variety of different animal pests. However, you can secure you garbage cans and prevent many of these problems. Ensure that you have an appropriate sized lid for the garbage can, and if need, then you should build a fence around you trash area. This will prevent animals from tampering with your garbage.
Use Traps
Well placed traps can stop animals from causing you problems before they even get close to your home or business. However, you will need to determine the most likely entry points. Look for existing tracks or other signs of animal activity. You should then place live traps close to this point. After an animal has become caught in your trap, you should take the trap, and release the animal far from your home. This will make it difficult for the animal to return.
