Wedding Invitation Wording

When you are planning a wedding, you want to make sure every little detail of the wedding is taken care of. One of these details is the wording you put on your wedding invitation. The wedding invitation sets the mood for the entire wedding so the words you choose are very important.

  1. Determine how formal your wedding is going to be. The more formal your wedding is, the more formal the wording on your invitation should be. If you are having a casual, backyard wedding then the wording can be much more casual and informal if you wish.

  2. Keep in mind who is paying for the wedding when you begin writing the content in your invitation. If the parents of the bride and groom are paying for the wedding, they should be the focus of the invitation and the invitation. Include wording such as "the daughter of..." or "the parents of... cordially invite you to..."

  3. Look online, in bridal magazines or stationary stores for samples and ideas on what to include in the invitation, and tweak as necessary. You will want to make sure the basics such as the time, date, location and dress code for the reception. Wording for these items should be as formal or informal as the rest of the invitation.

  4. Determine what additional information you want to include in the invitation such as directions to the wedding site or reception, an RSVP card or a card that allows guests to choose what entree they want to dinner.

  5. Make sure to choose your word choices carefully and look over the invitation several times to check for typos or other mistakes. Have someone else look over the invitation as well prior to sending it out.
