What Do Criminal Lawyers Do?
If you have been charged with a crime, you may have been advised by the police or judge appointed to your case that you should retain the services of a criminal lawyer to represent you in the case. Criminal lawyers are trained to sue the laws in place to help you beat the case, or receive the minimum sentence for the crime if you are convicted.
The job of a criminal defense lawyer is to represent their clients that have retained their services in a court of law. They are hired to present the case to the court in a way that will offer the best possible outcome for the client in which they are representing.
There are three types of criminal lawyers:
- Standard Criminal Lawyer - Charges a flat rate for their services
- Public Defender - A criminal lawyer that is appointed by the court to represent an individual that meets the income requirements
- Bar Attorney - Private attorney that has worked out arrangements with the court to take the cases of criminal defendants in exchange for the amount of bond that is posted on the case
The main job of a criminal lawyer is to gather facts surrounding the case so that they can defend their client in the best possible way. They will use the facts that they obtain to show their client in a favorable manner to the courts in order to obtain a not guilty verdict if possible. As long as a criminal attorney can prove that there is a reasonable doubt about the case, the court has no choice but to find the defendant not guilty. This is the best way to beat a criminal case in a court of law.
