Job Description for an IT Business Services Manager

What Is Information Technology?

Information technology has become very common for people to talk about especially as it deals with computers. However, people during the 1970s and into the early to mid-1980s had no concept of the personal computer or how it would soon change the world. By the 1990s more people were beginning to become aware of information technology.

Information Technology – Uses for the Entire Industry

When you hear people speak about “Information Technology” they tend to lump everything together and refer to anything technical under this umbrella. The true meaning of information technology is using software along with computers in the management of information. However, because technology has grown so rapidly, it seemed easier for most people to speak about everything “technical” as being a part of information technology.

Computers and Software

Computers have come a long way since the large clunky personal computers of the early 1990s. Today, most people use their laptops and even their cell phones to manage their information. However, larger companies still use the desktop computers, but they are thinner and lighter as well as being more powerful than anyone could have imagined in the early days. Most people have computers and Internet connections in their homes; some people work exclusively from home as a result of technology.

Software products used in business settings are powerful and make the lives of workers not just easier but more productive. Today, computers can do work more accurately and faster than any human could have dreamed. For instance, accounting software calculates the information as you type in the numbers, no longer requiring manual entries with a pencil or pen.

Computers and software continue to advance with each new release being faster, smaller yet able to hold more information. The world of information technology has truly changed the way the entire world works, communicates, and does business.
