What Is a Classic Car?
People always say they love classic cars, or cars that represent their youth and beauty. The term “classic car” is used very freely in car conversations, but what does it actually mean? Since the term simply means “an older car,” it is important to clarify the “classic” in the "classic car."
Technically, a classic car was made 20 to 40 years ago. It may also be an antique car, but the term “classic” seems more timeless. The Classic Car Club of America concludes that any vehicle over 45 years old is considered an antique car, even cars made as recently as a few years ago.
Cars like the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro made their premier decades ago but have now been re-invented with the safety standards while maintaining the “classic” look of the old version. These cars were called an “instant classic” when they hit the road.
Age of a vehicle is not the only requirement for a classic car. Other aspects must be evaluated. The car’s design, custom accessories, engine displacement, brakes and horse power all add to the definition.
Owners know that there is no amount of money or type of vehicle that could replace their classic. Insurance companies have special policies for such cars and mechanics are able to retrofit classic cars with safety features that will protect the riders in an accident. Owning or riding in a classic is an experience far beyond a dream.
