What Kind of Insurance Do You Need For an ATV?
The type of insurance that you may need for your ATV depends on your location. Most states require that you have at least minimal liability. States that are more in demand for ATVs, owners are required to carry full coverage. There are also those cities that require you to only use your ATV on private acres, sand dunes and trails. In this case, you may not be required to carry insurance at all.
If you are located in an area that requires full coverage insurance for your ATV, you will simply have to contact car insurance companies and purchase full coverage. Other states that require minimal insurance have more options that you may want to consider as an individual. Some of the coverage’s that you will want to consider are:
- Comprehensive and Collision - Whether you are a part of an accident or the cause of the accident, comprehensive and collision will help you no matter who is at fault. The form of insurance even covers collisions in buildings and immobile objects.
- Uninsured and Underinsured Driver - This coverage helps on repairs and medical bills that you would normally have to cover on your own if you did not have this feature on your insurance. You may have an accident where it’s not your fault but the other party has minimal insurance; not enough to cover all damages.
- Accessory Coverage - This will cover any electrical devices on your ATV. If you decide to modify anything installed on your ATV you will be covered with this type of insurance. This will also cover other accessories that are associated with your ATV, such as your helmet.
The type of ATV you have, your driving record, and the safety equipment that you have are other factors that go into the type of insurance you may be required to have. Your local DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) will be able to advise you of any requirements you may need on your insurance coverage.
