What are Field Fences?

A field fence is a type of fence which covers large distances without gaps. It is typically made out of wire mesh with the purpose of holding in livestock and holding out wild animals. These fences have to stand for years on end in extreme climates with little to no mending. Unlike residential fencing, they are made with function, not looks, in mind.

Your typical residential fence is designed to increase the look and privacy of your home. A field fence serves a very different purpose. It will cover an extended property line and be used to keep different types of livestock from wandering off. The type of field fence you use will depend on your specific needs.

Types of Field Fences

Multi-use woven field fences are strong wide-gaped fences. The weave will allow for the fence to expand and contract when taking abuse from livestock. It will also holdup better in changing weather conditions for the same reason.
Horse fences are meshed in a diamond pattern, which is stretchy enough to hold horses back. This mesh also keeps horses from injuring themselves on the fence. Some are designed with smaller gaps called "non-climb" horse fences which keep horse hooves from gaining hold.
Welded wire field fences are designed for all purposes. They are usually cheaper and come in a variety of mesh types and heights.

Field Fence Gates

Field fence gates need to be stronger than your typical fence gate. Like the fence itself the gate has to withstand the daily punishment of livestock and weather. They are made of steel tubing, and depending on the style of gate, they may or may not come with their own mesh.
