What are Polarized Sunglasses

Polarized sunglasses are used to reduce glare. Non-polarized glasses won’t prevent the uncomfortable glare that can occur when light bounces back at certain angles. This can make driving dangerous and difficult, and it’s uncomfortable. Most decent glasses on the market today are polarized. 

Polarized sunglasses are extremely popular. Most sunglasses that you find will be polarized. This means that a lot of people are not aware of what it is or what it does. You may have a pair of polarized sunglasses and not even realize it.

What it is

Basically, polarized sunglasses are when the lenses have been polarized to help reduce any glare that reflects off things like water and metals. This can make it much easier for those that are driving as the glare can make it difficult to see even with sunglasses on. This works by filtering out the horizontal glare that the glare comes from. Only vertical light is allowed into the lenses.

Coating VS Lenses

A lot of sunglasses will have a polarized coating on them as opposed to having the lenses themselves polarized. This is less expensive and much easier to do. However, you must remember that only coating the lenses will ensure that they do not last as long. The coating will eventually wear off, especially if you clean your glasses often.

Testing

In order to properly test your sunglasses to see if they are polarized, put them on and look at an object that reflects such as water or a metal object in the sun. If you do not see the glare with your sunglasses on, then they are polarized. If you do see the glare, then you may want to consider going to a store that sells sunglasses and looking for a pair of affordable polarized sunglasses you can wear.
