Gutter Installation 101

What are the Advantage of Aluminum Gutter Installation?

Aluminum gutters are a necessary part of every home roofing system. They provide drainage for rainwater and melting snow. The water is carried from the roof via the gutters to the downspout and channeled away from the house's foundation. Many homeowners opt for aluminum gutters because they are inexpensive and easy to install.

Durability
Aluminum gutters are classified in two types: primary and secondary.

  • Primary-rated aluminum is the best, as the thickness of material is the same throughout.

  • Secondary-rated aluminum is recycled of aluminum, which is lesser quality because the thickness of the material is inconsistent.

The thickness rating for all aluminum gutters is as follows: lightweight 0.019 to heavy gauge 0.032. Most homeowners select the heaviest available because it provides durability. Aluminium gutters won't rust, but can develop corrosion areas and dented by large tree branches. Therefore, the heaviest gauge metal provides the best protection.

Style and Installation
Aluminum gutters are available in five to six-inches in diameter. However, most are standard five-inch pieces. They come in seamless and individual pieces, which snap together when installed.

Aluminium gutters employ a system of hangers and screws for installation. Silicon sealant is used to prevent leaks in the gutter channels at the jointed areas and over screw holes. They are an excellent choice for any climate because their installation system provides movement for the gutter during freezing and thawing cycles. They do not need any preparation before painting. These gutters are available in different colors and can also be purchased with a pre-finished coating, such as enamel.
