What is Consulting?
Consultants, otherwise known as contractors or advisers, are professionals who provide expert help and insight in a variety of industries. Consultants typically have a great deal of experience in their field and can earn a significant income through their consulting fees.
Strategic Consulting
Strategic consulting, otherwise known as "big picture" or "blue sky" consulting, is the highest-skilled and highest-paying type of work in this field. Strategic consultants gather facts about a given industry or company and use their insight to guide their client on what moves they should make in their given market. For instance, a strategic consultant might tell a software company to concentrate on enhancing its product's user-friendliness and security to exploit a competitor's weak spots.
Management Consulting
Management consultants concentrate on deals with the client company's organizational structure. In addition, they offer advice on business processes and human resources issues. A management consultant, for instance, may advise a company that they have too many middle managers and should cut back.
Tech Consulting
Tech consultants are a newer brand of consultants that deal heavily with computers and Internet-related technology. Their typical function is to advise companies on how to implement their networks and computer-related assets in the most efficient way possible. A systems analyst is a classic definition of a tech consultant.
