Philanthropy can also be used to describe a donation of property. Philanthropy does not need to only happen between family members or relatives but some people can donate to strangers or charity organizations that they support.

One of the latest trends in donating are of items such as bone marrow or a kidney to help a sick individual. However the most common thing donated is still money and this can be given away for a variety of reasons. These reasons include a building fund, medical costs or for educational purposes.

It is also possible to donate your time. Quite a variety of individuals give a few hours of their time each week to either mentor and train another person or help an organization with its operational activities. An example is an accountant donating his time for a charity organization. This is a great example of philanthropy.
