Most people would refer to a portable computer as a laptop; though this is true in a sense, a portable computer is actually a computer larger than laptop and smaller than a desktop. A lot of them usually come with a case and handle for easy transport. They contain a separate display and keyboard and are also known as a mobile computer, a portable PC, a lunchbox computer, or a luggable computer.
A portable computer generally has more storage and space than a laptop with 3-1/2" drives and the ability to have multiple drives. The advantage of a portable computer over a mobile computer is the motherboards that allow for add-in cards. The first portable computer was created in 1979. The first mainstream portable computer was the Osborne 1. The first color portable computer was the Commodore SX-64 in 1984.
