What to Eat Before Working Out

Eating prior to working out will help you to have more energy and burn more fat when you work out. Choosing the right meal or snack prior to exercising will help you to get the most out of your workouts. You don't want to be hungry when you work out, but you don't want to have a full stomach either.

Your body uses carbohydrates as fuel so it makes sense to consume foods high in carbohydrates prior to working out. This will give your body the energy it needs for an effective workout. Foods such as breads, pasta, fruits, and vegetables are good choices. You should wait about two hours after consuming a small meal of these foods before exercising.

If you have less time, you should at least grab a quick snack prior to hitting the gym. Sports drinks and fruit juices will give you an energy boost and will help to hydrate you before exercising. A piece of fruit can help you stave off hunger so you can focus on your gym session.

If you will be working out within four hours, try to avoid large meals and foods that are high in fats and protein. These foods may leave you feeling tired and nauseous.
