How to Decide Where to Invest Money

What to Invest in With a Quick Return

When looking to invest money in anything that offers a quick return you need to be very careful. There are always a multitude of vehicles that will be more than willing to take your funds and guarantee you a quick return. In reality there are very few things in which to invest for short-term results.

  • Your first choice is a short-term savings account. Currently the banks are paying next to nothing for these accounts but the money is relatively safe. You are going to be disappointed if you are looking for any type of good return. Just make certain it can be taken out without penalty. FDIC insured.

  • Next choice would be checking accounts with interest. Again you are not going to really make any ‘return’ on your money but the banks are in general safe places to park your funds. FDIC insured.

  • Take a look at high yield banking accounts. They offer the same advantages as checking accounts and some offer interest rates comparable to CD’s. You can get even better rates from online only banks that put the money back to the customers by offering less frills. They are also FDIC insured.

  • Check out the money market deposit accounts. They may require you to have a minimum balance all the time and only have a limited number of transactions. These accounts are very liquid and the FDIC also insures them so you money is fairly safe.

  • Have a hard look at money market funds. Brokerage firms offer these funds. These are most likely your best choice. You can set them up to use checks and ATM cards. You can often get your money to grow fairly quickly and at higher rates than money market accounts. They are not FDIC insured.
