What to Look for When Touring Homes for Sale
Buying a home is a big investment. You want this investment to last long so you can enjoy it for years to come. The home should be inspected carefully when you take a tour of it. You do not want to end up in a home and regret it later because you will not be able to get out of it once you sign the papers for the home.
What to Look for When Touring Homes for Sales
- Check every room in the home. Some people just walk by and look in. This will be your home you will live in for years and you should carefully view every detail of the rooms.
- Open and close all of the windows. They should open and close properly. The locks on them should work correctly also. Make sure they lock properly.
- Smell the air in each room. Ask about any funny smells. Some of those odors could be mold or mildew.
- Turn on any appliances to make sure they work. Look around them to make sure they are not damaged with dents.
- Turn on all water sources in the home to make sure water comes out okay. Check for odors that may be present in the drains.
- Check the areas around the home made of wood. You want to make sure there are no areas that have termites. Any areas that have eaten wood could be a problem area. If there are groves in the wood, this could be a sign of a termite problem.
- Open and close all doors to make sure they open and close as they should. Check the locks on them also.
- Make sure the garage door open and close properly if there is one.
- Open all of the cabinets and check the pipes. There should be no corrosion or leaks around the pipes.
- Flush all of the toilets to make sure they flush and there are no backups.
- Check the paint on the walls, tiles and baseboard for any damage.
- When you are outside, take a look at the roof. Walk around the home and check for missing shingles or other damage.
