What to Wear to an Amusement Park

The advent of summer brings road trips, either day or weekend outings or full-fledged vacations, and many of these will involve amusement parks. Visiting these places can be enormous fun, but like any other activity, you must be prepared for them. One of the most important considerations is the clothes to wear, since at an amusement park they can significantly affect your experience.

Deciding what to wear to an amusement park should be part of the fun. There are three main things to consider: the park environment, your body and your taste. Take all three into account and your amusement park outfit will enhance your trip rather than detracting from the fun.

The Nature of Amusement Parks

Those who design amusement parks are concerned with one thing: marketability. Patron comfort, above a minimum level, takes a back seat to safety, cleanliness and other operational factors. To keep your park experience positive, choose clothing that will take up the slack. Because seats are made of sturdy easy to clean plastic, they will stick to the backs of bare legs, so choose longer skirts or shorts to protect your skin. The surface underfoot will be asphalt or concrete, so select comfortable shoes. There will be no shade, so bring a hat and sunscreen. Things fly around on rides, so tie up long hair and wear shorts under skirts. You will get wet on water rides, so wear clothing that dries quickly. Bring an umbrella or poncho in case of rain and a water resistant bag to carry spare clothing, sunscreen, a jacket and so forth. This bag and your shoes as well, should firmly attach to your body, or on some rides you will be asked to leave both with the attendant.

Choose Clothing That Flatters Your Body

Amusement park outfits are sportswear meant for comfortable activity, but that is no reason to intentionally perpetrate a fashion disaster. Since these parks are child friendly, showing excess skin is in poor taste for anyone. For those whose bodies are less than perfect, discreet coverage is advisable, and clothing should not be so tight as to be unattractive. When in doubt, cover it up! Even sandals call for some care in making sure the feet are presentable. And since those rides do bounce around, ladies with any perceptible bosom should wear sturdy undergarments to ensure comfort as well as to prevent embarrassment.

Express Yourself

Your comfort level at an amusement park is psychological as well as physical. Wear clothing that suits your normal style of sportswear, the sort of thing you might wear to a softball game at a company or church picnic. Cheap apparel is acceptable if you like wearing it, and so are designer pieces if you are not worried about rips and stains. Goth, mod or steampunk styles can be fun at a park if you are comfortable in them, but think twice about wearing black in the hot sun. Whatever you wear, make sure it suits you, and remember that almost anyone may see the pictures.

The goal of an amusement park visit is to enjoy yourself. Think about the environment you will be in and about the sort of clothing that looks good on you, and choose accordingly. Above all, have fun!
