Why is Continuing Education Important?

Learning should never end.  It is important that people are learning something new and keeping their mind alert even after high school graduation.  Whether a student has goals of higher educational degrees or certification of specific trades or skills, continuing education is one of the most important things someone can do for themselves.

Students who begin early childhood education, elementary school, intermediate and middle school have a goal of graduating from high school someday.  This goal is achieved by nearly 75 percent of all learners.  Those students who end up dropping out or quitting high school usually decide to go back to school and earn a GED, or General Education Development certificate.  Continuing education includes those students who return to the high school level any time in their life.

Students who graduate from high school should consider continuing their education for various reasons.  Most jobs that earn over $50,000 annually require some education beyond high school.  Four-year degrees are not always required, but students should consider pursing educational interest while they are young and have created a steady educational focus for their lives.

Attending a community college or university is a prime way to continue education.  Many students choose to take classes that will earn them certification or an associate’s degree so they may begin a skill or trade two years after high school graduation.  Getting a four year degree is also another option for continuing a student education.  A degree shows a student's ability to preserve and complete a program for a long term goal.

A bachelor’s degree is not the final step of continuing education.  Students can go on to earn a master’s degree or Ph.D.  Student studying in the medical field can earn a doctorate to practice medicine.

Whether education is continued for advancement on the pay scale or a way to find a good job, people must never stop learning.  Learning is something that is done both in and out of the classroom and makes a student a well-rounded citizen able to contribute to society.
