Wood Mold Treatment
Mold can ruin good wood in a short matter of time. This means that you could lose a sizable investment if mold runs its full course. You can stop the rampant growth of mold by using one of several different methods.
Use one or several of these methods to remove mold from your wood:
- Wash the wood using a sponge dipped in a water and bleach solution. You should combine ¼ cup of bleach per one gallon of warm water. This solution should help kill the mold. Because of the nature of bleach, don’t forget to use gloves. If you are looking for a method that is less abrasive, you can use a combination of water and baking soda. This has also been found to be successful.
- Pressure wash the wood. Purchase or rent a pressure washer. You will find that the high-powered steam of water should remove the mold from the wood. You can also add a cleanser to the pressure washer to give you twice the cleaning power.
- Use a media blaster to clean the wood. Media blasters are more abrasive and use sand to literally sandblast the wood clean. Some of the most difficult mold growth can be removed by using the media blaster.
- Sand the wood down with a power sander. Although this step should be your last resort, sometimes there is no other way to get the wood clean except for sanding it down. Use a high-speed sandblaster and course sandpaper for the best results.
