Young Children Art Activities About Safety

Safety themed art activities are an excellent idea for children. Most children enjoy arts and crafts. Teaching children about different safety precautions through enjoyable art activities is a great way to get the children to understand how important these safety issues happen to be.

Fire Safety

To teach children the proper fire safety precaution, the instructor should first read a book about fire safety to the children. After reading the book and going over different precautions, the instructor will ask the children to draw a picture describing what they would do if a fire was taking place in their home. This simple art activity helps children to thoroughly understand fire safety and what they should do if a fire were to occur.

Stranger Safety

Before beginning the art activity, the instructor should go over different safety precautions for children when dealing with strangers. After going over the different safety precautions, the children will make an instructional poster. The instructor will need a large piece of poster board and different colored markers. Each child will have the opportunity to write down one rule when dealing with strangers. After each child has written down one rule on the poster board with their marker, all of the children can begin decorating the poster. The instructor may even want the children to paste printed safety images to the poster.

General Safety

Safety measures should be taken for any type of situation. After the instructor reviews different types of safety methods with the children, he can pass out different colored construction paper to each child. The instructor will ask the children to draw one example of safety precaution. One child may choose to draw a picture of themselves riding a bike with a helmet on. This picture would show that the child is wearing a helmet as a safety precaution. Another child may choose to draw a picture of themselves calling 9-1-1 because of a fire. The lesson learned from this activity is that there are so many different safety precautions, and they are all important to follow.
