How to harmonize the size of the headboard with the size of the bed?

Intended to decorate the front of the bed, it must logically be chosen above all according to the characteristics of the latter: height and width, but also height in relation to the ground and other small details will allow you to choose the size of the head of the bed. Ideal bed.

Choose your headboard according to the dimensions of the bed

For reasons that are purely aesthetic, but obvious, you will not choose a single headboard if you have a queen size bed! Therefore, the first element to consider is the size of your bed. Although quite feasible, it is very rare to opt for a backsplash that is narrower than the bed. Standard headboard widths instead allow you to install a model the same width as the bed, giving your bedroom a classic elegance.

For a more design and modern effect, you can turn to a headboard size that exceeds that of the custom upholstered furniture. We then speak of an overflow headboard. It gives the impression that the bed is wider than in reality and reinforces the cozy style of a bedroom if you choose it in fabric.

What height for the headboard?

In terms of height, you can choose from several options:

·        The headboard rests on the floor

·        The headboard is fixed to the wall and goes down to the mattress

·        The choice is a question of style, the suspended version offering a more designer look

You can also go for a standard headboard height, that is to say measuring between 35 and 75 cm from the top of the mattress. To increase the feeling of space in your bedroom or in the event of a high ceiling, do not hesitate to choose a headboard that deviates from these standards. Be careful, however, that the height of the headboard does not exceed the length of your bed in order to preserve the harmony of the volumes.

How to choose your headboard according to the configuration of your room?

When deciding on the size of the headboard, it is important not to consider only the bed. Some technical constraints may, in fact, be added at the time of this choice, in addition to your aesthetic criteria. Indeed, care must be taken that the headboard does not pass in front of various elements that can be hung on the wall near the bed, such as:

·        wall sconces

·        Sockets

·        switches

·        Shelves

·        Etc.

Cutting out your headboard to allow access to a switch or a socket, for example, is rarely an aesthetic success. If such obstacles are on the wall against which the headboard will lean, it is better to opt for a smaller model. It is important to take these technical constraints into account in order to avoid unpleasant surprises when you return home with your new headboard.

The ideal way to avoid any risk of this kind? Take measures! You will know exactly which headboard size you can choose. For aesthetic reasons, on the other hand, it can be elegant to go for a headboard wide enough for your bedside tables to be encompassed by the backsplash, but pay attention to the position of the sockets to which you plug your bedside lamps.

How to choose the size of your headboard according to the cushions?

Another aesthetic criterion can help you determine the size of your headboard: the size of your cushions. Indeed, when the bed is made, with the pillows neatly placed against the headboard, the result must be harmonious. It all depends on the type of cushion you have on your bed.

Take into account the size of the cushions

If you prefer to sleep with just one pillow, chances are it's chunky pillows. In this case, it is better to choose a fairly high headboard, so that it does not disappear behind the pillows and loses almost all its decorative value. If, on the contrary, you like to multiply the cushions of various sizes to reinforce the cocooning effect of the layout of your room, you can opt for a lower headboard. The main thing is that the backsplash always protrudes from the pillows.

Manage the position of the cushions

Cushions are also a good indication of the ideal width of your custom made headboards. Indeed, if you tend to arrange them towards the center of the bed, which is often the case when you like to have many cushions, you can choose a standard headboard size (i.e. the same width as your bed.) If you place your pillow rather at the end of the bed because it is imposing, prefer an overhanging headboard, so that it visually balances the arrangement of your bed.
