Gregory J. Daniels DDS Explains Teeth in a Day

Aug 08, 2013

Treatment offers options for patients who have delayed oral care.

HINSDALE, Illinois – July 5, 2013 – Gregory J. Daniels DDS, announces the addition of “teeth in a day,” an option that replaces an entire arch of teeth in one treatment. Also known as All-on-4, a trademarked process from Nobel Biocare, this procedure is performed by a team of professionals.

According to Gregory J. Daniels DDS, some patients procrastinate when it comes to dental care due to fear, time or financial constraints. Over time, this neglect can lead to severe deterioration of natural teeth, in which case Gregory J. Daniels DDS finds that the only option is intensive dental work or complete dentures. This implant retained prosthesis can help patients for whom the cost of repair to existing teeth is great and more prone to failure in the long-term.

When a patient visits the offices of Gregory J. Daniels DDS, for All-on-4 treatment, Gregory J. Daniels DDS, teaches his patients about the many treatment options that exist. Once the patients is well enough informed to pursue the implant retained All-on-4 treatment, he creates study models of the jaw area, takes photographs and necessary x-rays. Treatment is then planned with an oral surgeon and a dental prosthetist. Next, as Gregory J. Daniels DDS explains, CT scans are made and a virtual 3D model created of the patient’s jaws. These models are used to create a titanium structure which then supports teeth made from natural-looking acrylic. The scan also serves to spot where in the jaw bone is best for the supporting implant placement. To support the titanium framework and prosthesis, four or more implants may be used, the more the better, according to Gregory J. Daniels DDS

Gregory J. Daniels DDS describes that “All-on-4” refers to the four titanium implants that anchor each arch. The procedure is also referred to as “teeth in a day,” states Gregory J. Daniels DDS, because once the preliminary work is done, the removal of the natural teeth and implant placement are completed by the oral surgeon and the already fabricated false tooth unit is fitted in one day-long session.  Gregory J. Daniels DDS and the whole team, including a dental technician and the surgical team, are on-site the day of the scheduled procedure.

Prior to the beginning of the procedure, Gregory J. Daniels DDS ensures local anesthesia is administered. As the individual patient desires, sedation or general anesthesia may be included and administered by the surgeon or licensed anesthesiologist. Once the patient is sufficiently comfortable, the oral surgeon will remove the existing teeth, shape the remaining jaw bone and place the implants. Gregory J. Daniels DDS then works to carefully create the patient’s new, beautiful smile by fitting and improving the dental prosthesis until it fits comfortably. Finally it is secured to the anchoring implants with screws so that it will not move or come out. This is a denture that is worn while healing and is meant to be used for only a few months.

The complete procedure is done within one day, between five and eight hours, notes Gregory J. Daniels DDS. As Gregory J. Daniels DDS explains, a patient can expect to show off his or her smile immediately following the procedure. The only requirement is that the patient adhere to a diet of extremely soft food for the first few weeks, according to Gregory J. Daniels DDS.

A few months after this initial treatment, Gregory J. Daniels DDS adds that a more permanent bridge is created. This subsequent false tooth unit is necessary because the fit of the original can only be approximated due to the amount of changes in shape and size of the healing oral tissues. With the stability of the healed tissues, a new well-fitting unit can be made using higher quality materials for long term use. Dr Daniels includes this final dental work in his initial fee to avoid any confusion.

Gregory J. Daniels DDS recommends the All-on-4 treatment option for patients who are facing the loss of all natural teeth and a life with removable complete dentures. For patients considering the procedure, Gregory J. Daniels DDS can provide a complete consultation to determine if “teeth in a day” is the right option.
