This occurs when water contacts limestone formations as it percolates underground, slowly dissolving these minerals into solution. Eighty-five percent of US homes have hard water issues. I'm sure you are already experiencing the effects of your hard water. Excessive scale buildup within piping, plumbing fixtures, glassware, dishes, shower-doors (glassware and shower doors will become permanently etched) and around faucets. Your hair and skin suffer form soap scum buildup created by hard water. Hot water heaters, dishwashers, coffee makers and the new high efficiency washing machines are particularly vulnerable to hard water deposits and require more frequent servicing and fail much sooner than with soft water. Research conducted by government agencies and private industry has verified that: 1.) You spend up to 75% more money on soaps, detergents and other cleaning products with hard water. 2.) Soft water saves up to 30% in energy used for hot water heating. 3.) Laundry will be fluffier, whiter, brighter and cloths will last an average of 35% longer with soft water. 4.) Dry, flaky and sensitive skin along with brittle, hard to manage hair is minimized or completely eliminated with soft water. 5.)
