Why not to rent an cheap/economy/compact car at the Bozeman Airport
We are often asked if we offer small, economy car rentals. The answer is no, and this photo is why. Shared from with us recently from our friends at Distinctly Montana magazine, this image depicts the result of a head on collision with an elk.
Fortunately, the driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured- mostly due from the fact that this was not a compact car. We are all for efficiency in vehicles and cost saving, however, chances are if you get in an accident driving in Montana it will be with an animal, in this case an elk, weight around 700 lbs. I believe the vehicle here is a Honda Passport, weight around 4,500 lbs (this is not one of our rental cars).
Seeing the damage done Honda Passport vs. Elk, can you imagine what would have happened if they were driving a compact 'economy' car- such as a Toyota Yaris (commonly rented as a compact car at Bozeman Airport) weight 2,300 lbs?
Chances are, the driver and passenger would not walk away from this incident and would likely be lucky to ever walk again. Save the 'compact' and 'economy' car rentals for the city. When in Montana Spend a little extra on a bigger car and protect your family.
