How to Handle Your Car Overheating at Sunnyside Chevrolet

Apr 16, 2014

When you’re driving and you suddenly notice the temperature rising to H to “hot” there are certain precautions that you need to take. The first thing you should do is pull over to the side of the road and turn off the engine.

The most important thing you can do is stay calm. Read some of our safety tips from Sunnyside Chevrolet, our Chevrolet dealer serving Cleveland so you can be in control of the situation the next time your car overheats.

Our Safety Tips

As soon as you notice that your car is overheating, stop and turn off the engine. Wait until the hood is completely cooled to open the hood. Check the coolant level in the radiator. If you’re unsure where this is, open up your owner’s manual for more information specific to your vehicle.

First, make sure that the radiator cap is cool before you slowly twist it off with a towel. Be careful of any hot steam during this process. If needed, fill coolant to the top of the radiator and put the cap back on.

When your car has cooled down, the next thing you can do is restart your engine! Before you go anywhere, carefully monitor the temperature gauge, and be aware if the gauge creeps up towards the H.

Keep the following essential items in your car to prepare for your car overheating: coolant, tool kit, working flashlight, non-perishable foods and water.

If you suspect that your issue has escalated and you need quality service, come into Sunnyside Chevrolet, our Chevrolet dealership serving Chevrolet. You can schedule your service appointment online or call us at 440-328-8495 today!
