Apr 24, 2023

Betta or Siamese fighting fish is a popular aquarium species among fish enthusiasts. However, have you ever heard of alien betta fish? These unique and exotic creatures are a fascinating variation of the traditional betta fish, with their striking appearance and distinct characteristics.

What is Alien Betta Fish?

Alien betta fish is a type of betta fish that has been selectively bred to have unusual physical characteristics that resemble those of an alien.

Their bodies are elongated, with enlarged heads and eyes that protrude outwards. Their fins are also longer and more pointed than traditional betta fish, giving them a distinctive look that will turn heads.

In terms of their coloring, alien betta fish come in vibrant and iridescent hues and LED lights in aquariums often enhance these colors, which can create a stunning and otherworldly effect.

While alien betta fish are undoubtedly visually stunning, they also have a few unique characteristics that set them apart from traditional betta fish. They are more resilient and hardier, making them easier to care for and maintain in a home aquarium.

So, below are some care and breeding tips for your first Alien Betta!

Care Tips

·     Tank Size –

Alien bettas need a minimum of 5 gallons of water in their aquarium because of their small size. A larger tank is always better as it will provide more space for your fish to swim and explore.

·     Water Quality –

Alien bettas require clean water free from toxins, ammonia, and nitrites. It is recommended to do partial water changes every week or two and use a water conditioner to neutralize harmful chemicals.

·     Water Temperature –

Alien betta is a tropical fish that must be kept in water between 76-82 degrees Fahrenheit.

·     Diet –

Alien bettas are carnivorous and need a diet that is high in protein. You can feed them various foods such as pellets and frozen or live food like brine shrimp and bloodworms. Also, avoid overfeeding as it can cause constipation.

·     Tank Decoration -

Alien bettas love to have hidden spots in their tank, such as plants or ornaments. However, ensure that any decorations you add to the tank are safe for your betta.

Breeding Tips

·     Selecting a Pair –

You should select healthy male and female betta with vibrant colors. It is also important to ensure they are compatible and not aggressive toward each other.

·     Conditioning –

Before breeding, you must condition your bettas by feeding them various high-protein foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. This will help to increase their fertility.

·     Breeding Tank –

You should set up a breeding tank that is at least 10 gallons in size and has a heater to maintain a temperature of 78-82 degrees Fahrenheit. The tank should be filled with clean, aged water and have plenty of hiding spots for the female.

·     Introduction –

Once the breeding tank is set up, you can introduce the male and female betta into the tank. The male will build a bubble nest on the water's surface.
