A Popular locally owned chain serves ribs and brisket with a decor that is all Texas. They offer Barbecue by the pound, Barbecue plates, and Catering. Since 1979, Pok-e-Jo's Smokehouse has been feeding barbecue to Austin, Texas a variety of barbecue plates from which to... choose. Best of all, the lunch special--your choice of meat with two sides--is available for dinner as well. Catering options range from pickups for large orders to delivery and a buffet-style setup and Full Service for 100 or more guests. Wedding catering is a specialty. They offer the largest variety of sides made fresh daily and even a vegetarian plate. They also offer two choices of BBQ Sauce, the original and the spicy (made with ground chipotle peppers), be sure to hit the condiment bar and pile on the onions, Pico-de-Gallo, and jalapenos.

Uncommonly Sub-normal Staff
So, I went into Pok-e-Jo's there on W. Parmer with a heck of an appetite and some friends and we were joshing eachother about who was hungrier. To prove my point, I ordered the full 4 meat plate which is the biggest on the menu. It is on the menu, so it's not like it sh...ould be a surprising thing to see somebody order. But all down the line from the staff I kept getting smart-alec remarks so as to suggest I was being gluttonous which to me was strange, seeing as how it was a barbecue place and what I was ordering was on the menu. Seriously, what kind of restaurant keeps staff on that would want to discourage people from buying food? The meat was okay but you can bet, Pok-e-Jo, the message was clear: you don't want my business....but Sam's does, and the Salt Lick, and Rudy's, and you know I could go on and on.

This was the first Texas BBQ I ever experienced and it remains some of the best!
