In Florida, if a vehicle is stored for more than 35 days (slightly longer on newer vehicles), the vehicle will either be destroyed or sold at auction. If it's been a year, the vehicle is likely gone and you are still responsible for towing & storage charges. Fortunately, many companies will write off the remaining amount due and it will not be sent to collections.

You can not get your car back. The way this works is that any car left in a tow lot for more than 72hrs. has a lien put against it. What this means is that the tow company notifies you by mail that they are in possession of your vehicle and you have a certain amount of days to pick up your vehicle and pay the towing charges. If you do not pick up your vehicle, the tow cvompany then owns your vehicle and it may be sold at auction. Most tow companies will send you to collections for the amount you owe minus the profit made on the sale of your car.
