About 1930s Clothing Styles

1930s Clothing Fashions

Clothing of the 1930s was full of glitz and glam with high attention to details. Long flowing sleeves and little delicate hats were common among women. Men wore button up shirts or high quality suits with shiny shoes. The biggest fashion trends are still amongst the fashion world today.

Crepe Day Dresses

The pleated crepe material was a popular look of the time, often paired with a large brimmed hat or a cloche. Most day dresses were a dark deep enticing color such as navy blue or purple. In the summertime, crepe dresses went from orange to a light cream. They were worn with small 2-inch heels and sheer stockings for a stylish comforted fit.

Leg of Mutton Sleeves

These types of blouses were derived from the fashions of the late 1980s. The puffed out top portion of the sleeve was a popular look among women of all ages. They paired this type of blouse with a long slinky skirt and quite often a cloche hat. Leg of mutton blouses were either made out of silk or had lace portions circling around the neck area of the garment.

Fitted Blazers

The blazer coat that hugged at the shoulders and was rounded at the yoke were popular ever since Coco Chanel introduced them in the 1920s. They were made out of a tweed or wool fabric and paired with silky gloves and an evening gown or blouse. This style was such a huge trend that they are made even today in the same fit and style as they have always been.
